eScape Promotion

During June Stampin’ Up! is encouraging us all to break free from the ‘e’ world by putting down the phone, turning off the computer and reconnecting with friends and loved ones with handmade cards.

I was thinking of the sentiment behind the eScape promotion when I was getting the mail today.  Does anyone else find they get a real lift when amongst the pile of bills and junk mail they find a hand addressed envelope with a letter or card inside!?  And multiply that buzz even more if it a card someone has taken the time to make especially for you.

My mum regularly writes letters to Hannah and now to Jack as well and they get so excited when they see the colourful envelope and recognise the writing.  She writes a short note and tells a little story about something she and Dad have been doing that day and asks some questions.  She always draws a quick little picture to go with it.  Now mum has always said she is not very artistic, but these are our favourite bits.  OK maybe second favourite – she sends them little sheets of stickers which are quite a hit.  Jack sits and industriously peels all his off and sticks them to the letter straight away!  Anyway – I think letters from Maddy will feature in the kids happy memories from childhood.

Making cards can seem like a strange way to spend your time amongst all the hustle and bustle of busy lives these days, but as well as being an enjoyable and relaxing hobby, it can also be a way of strengthening those personal connections and helping people feel appreciated and remembered. 

Getting together with friends to make some cards is another great way to spend a few hours.  I always love sitting at a table with a bunch of fellow craft people, surrounded by inks and papers and lots of laughs.  On Saturday I spent a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with some new Stampin’ Up friends from the team I belong to.  We shared creations and borrowed each other’s supplies to make cards and layouts – it was lots of fun.
